Was reminded of this gorgeous web exhibit when I was double checking some of my color theory links. I can't even remember why I put this in with color theory. Maybe I wanted an excuse to share it? Who knows...
but anyway this is from the 2008 exhibit at the National Museum of the American Indian. It's called "Identity by Design: Tradition, Change and Celebration in Native Women's Dresses."
Today I'm looking at all the embellishment "above the beads" -- the shells, fringe, teeth and cones added after the bead embroidery is done. Stunning! These are the final touches that make the designs POP.
